Little Cicero has truly snagged all of our hearts. He came into the shelter as a stray on September 12 and we're thinking he's about a year old and possibly a shelter/terrier mix. We immediately knew something wasn't right by the way he was holding his left hind leg.
We immediately took him to Lincoln Way Animal Hospital where the folks took x-rays for us and we found something truly ugly. The bone of his left hind leg was completely snapped in half (see the x-ray below).
Robin Beatty, the technician who performed the x-rays said he was the sweetest boy. She said she felt so bad because she had to stretch his legs and she knew it had to hurt, but she didn't hear one whimper or even a noise from Cicero.
Because Lincoln Way Animal Hospital doesn't perform orthopedic surgeries, we contacted Shippensburg Animal Hospital and Dr. Stoner said that he would help.
Cicero has come through his surgery (both the orthopedic and neutering) with flying colors. He's currently in a foster home where he's on
strict cage rest and his leg is healing nicely. Cicero loves to chase moths and snap at flies and even though he's supposed to be resting, it's tough to keep the little guy down. He certainly doesn't seem like he just came through two surgeries.
At the moment, the cost for his care is $1,000 and climbing. We're reaching out to all of our supporters and friends for help with his vet bills. We have a fund at CVAS set aside for animals who come to us just like Cicero who need special care and attention called the Second Chance Fund.
We use it also for our hoarding cases, which we've seen a few over the past couple of months.
